How much does this tell us about the quality of UK universities?

Obviously this is great news. To have so many universities feature among the elite universities on the continent is a fantastic achievement. The rankings assess universities on the following criterion:

  • teaching environment
  • research environment
  • citations (research influence)
  • industry income
  • international outlook.

All of which are factors that students would consider to be important when selecting the university they would like to attend.

The only limitation to how good this news is that this table is European and a world ranking, whilst there are some fantastic universities based in Europe, the real test is seeing how well UK institutions measure up against those in America and Asia. Universities such as Harvard and MIT have historically featured at the top of world rankings amongst Oxford, Cambridge and the other top UK universities.
