The banking industry is one of the most competitive industries when it comes to graduate jobs, with positions in Investment and Retail Banking. Banking graduate roles are amongst the most sought after career paths.
Areas of Banking
Investment: Investment Banking is responsible for advising clients who are aiming to raise capital or issue debt. They can also be involved in a representative role in mergers and acquisitions.
Retail: Retail Banking is the more common commercial banking that involves individuals using high street branches to store and manage their savings.
Is Banking right for me?
Each role within banking will have varying requirements and different companies will seek different competencies from a candidate. Generally banks will look for an applicant who has strong analytical and numerical skills, they will also want a candidate to demonstrate exceptional communication skills.
Subject and grade requirements
Most companies within the banking industry will require a minimum of a 2:1 at degree level, many also require at least a B at GCSE in Mathematics and English. Some will also require a minimum of 320 UCAS points at A-level.
In the banking industry most companies will accept applications from any degree subjects although the most common related degrees are in the areas of business, finance, economics and other numerate subjects.
